International Anti-Corruption Day

The United Nations General Assembly established International Anti-Corruption Day in 2003, with the adoption of the United Nations Convention Against Corruption (UNCAC). Recognizing that corruption was a significant barrier to social, economic, and political growth, the convention aimed to strengthen cooperation among nations to address this pressing issue. In India, corruption is recognized as a major challenge, with the nation ranking 86 out of 180 countries on Transparency International's 2020 Corruption Perception Index. The Indian government has taken several steps to tackle corruption, including the implementation of the Right to Information Act in 2005, the Lokpal and Lokayuktas Act in 2013, and the establishment of the Central Vigilance Commission as the apex authority for addressing corruption in government organizations.

International Anti-Corruption Day is celebrated across India through various initiatives, including awareness campaigns, seminars, and workshops that encourage individuals and organizations to understand the impact of corruption and contribute to a corruption-free society. Educational institutions, non-governmental organizations, and government agencies participate actively in these activities, as well as enforcing legal and regulatory measures to curb corruption. International Anti-Corruption Day is observed annually on December 9th, providing an opportunity for individuals, communities, and institutions in India to emphasize the importance of integrity and ethics in our collective fight against corruption.
